Alternative text: Since finishing orientation at the beginning of May, Carly and Kyle Laggo,(#InternationalVolunteers, #Canada) have joined the Finance and Regional Support Teams and are based in #SouthAfrica. ⠀ ⠀ "After finishing our placement in #Zambia, we returned to the Hands at Work Community in South Africa where we continue to learn and grow in our roles and responsibility. ⠀ ⠀ As we experience more of the day to day work, we continue to see that it is not just about the actual work that we are contributing but it is much more about what God is continuing to show us about ourselves as He reveals the areas in which He is growing us. We don't come with the solutions and answers to the challenges here, but we come with an open heart and a willingness to serve in the littlest of mundane tasks, to the seemingly "more important" ones. It is with this attitude that we are excited to see what the rest of the year holds for us.” ⠀ ⠀ #ServingTheMostVulnerable
Alternative text: Sara Waldvogel (#InternationalVolunteer, #US) has joined the finance team and is based in #SouthAfrica. ⠀ ⠀ "God is teaching me that His ways are best. I’m learning that it’s a good thing for me to not know the future and trust it completely to him and his leading."⠀ ⠀ Do you feel CALLED to come and volunteer with Hands at Work? Alternative text: Since finishing orientation at the beginning of May, Dawson Reddekopp, 22 (#InternationalVolunteer, #Canada) has joined the Regional Support Team (RST) and the Maintenance Team and is based in #Zambia. ⠀ ⠀ "One day while I was in a community in Zambia, God started to open my eyes to what true hospitality should look like as believers. I met a widowed woman, who was struggling to support her 4 children. She offered me something to eat and graciously gave me something to sit on while she sat on the floor. She openly shared her life story and the struggles that she faced. By these actions, God shone light into the areas of my life where I could grow in showing hospitality to others!"⠀ ⠀ #ServingTheMostVulnerable #Hospitality
Alternative text: ⠀ Since finishing orientation at the beginning of May, Kara McLaughlin, 31 (#InternationalVolunteer, #Australia) has joined the Regional Support Team (RST) and is based in #SouthAfrica. ⠀ ⠀ "One morning I woke up to the sun masked by a thick fog. On this journey, I have had to hold the Father's hand tightly, moving forward as I walk by faith and not by sight."⠀ ⠀ Do you feel called to come and volunteer with Hands at Work? Alternative text: Since finishing orientation at the beginning of May, Lerato Van Hoffen, 23 (#AfricanVolunteer, #SouthAfrica) has joined the Hospitality Team and is based in #SouthAfrica. ⠀ ⠀ "My time with Hands at Work has been great as God has been working in my heart and opening up my eyes to see things in the way that He sees them. When I came to Hands at Work, I didn't know that I had the gift of hospitality but working with the hospitality team has been a blessing. I enjoy cooking and interacting with people; making them feel at home. I’ve built new relationships with people from across the globe and I have been able to hear their stories and see God at work in their lives. I’ve also found it very challenging to serve in a way that isn't in the spotlight, however it’s not what the world sees as great. God has humbled me and helped me to see how even the small things can have an effect in the lives of the children in our communities." ⠀ ⠀ #ServingTheMostVulnerable
Alternative text: Since finishing orientation at the beginning of May, Jimmy Kerr, 19 (#InternationalVolunteer, #Australia) has joined the Communications Team and is based in #SouthAfrica. ⠀ ⠀ "God has been teaching me about how He has called His people to build community and the importance of consciously putting time and effort into growing relationships. I have been convicted to intentionally build community - being inclusive and sensitive to the needs of others." ⠀ ⠀ Do you feel called to #come and volunteer with Hands at Work? Alternative text: Craig Rebro reflects on the importance and value of being a part of a small group: ⠀ ⠀ "Small group is a place where we practice community. We have people from many different countries and cultures represented and it truly feels like ‘kingdom culture’. It’s a safe place to bring our prayer requests and it’s been wonderful to connect with each person in our group on a more personal level. We ‘do life’ together in a way that honours God by seeking Him first while we discuss our lives and pray together."⠀ ⠀ #Fellowship #Community #ChristOurFoundation
Alternative text: An important aspect of community living is fellowshipping together over a meal. Jesus and his disciples regularly spent time together over a meal. ⠀ ⠀ Who is gathered around our tables? It didn't matter to Jesus whether the people he ate with were 'outsiders'. Is our table that open to those considered ‘outsiders’ who need to experience the love of Christ? Are we as willing as Jesus to step outside of our comfort zone and invite others to come sit at our table?⠀ ⠀ #Fellowship #ChristOurFoundation
Alternative text: "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy."⠀ - Proverbs 31: 8 - 9 ⠀ ⠀ #Scripture #Pray
